The Road to Ubidots - Erinn #3

The Road to Ubidots

After the midterm, we had a team meeting to discuss our next project sprint; connecting to our chosen IoT cloud platform, Ubidots. We split into two teams; one team attempting to connect the Tello drone to Ubidots via OpenCV, and the other figuring out an autopiloting system for the Tello drone.

I volunteered to work on the Ubidots team as I had previous experience using OpenCV. We initially set out using a tutorial, https://ubidots.com/blog/people-counting-with-opencv-python-and-ubidots/, however, after following the tutorial step by step the end result did not work. Turns out the tutorial was for sending images to Ubidots and therefore the live camera feed would not display on Ubidots.

Amongst ourselves we decided to split our team again, two working on the live feed connection to Ubidots and the other getting the Tello connected to the Tello network. After the tutorial setback, we decided to start from scratch, hosting the live feed to a local host and attempting to use an iframe to display this feed. We continued to have issues displaying the feed on Ubidots and research indicated it was a public/private host connection issue.

After some thought, we came up with the idea to use Streamlabs to capture the video feed, live stream it to a live streaming platform, Twitch, and from Twitch to Ubidots via iframe. This worked successfully! Using Twitch also enables people to watch the live feed on a different platform with a live chat.
