Short Intro - Kevin Power #1

About me

Hi my name is Kevin Power. I'm currently in my final year of BSc in Applied Computing specialising in IoT. I'm from Waterford and have an interest in all things Electronics/Computing. I recently completed an Industrial Placement for Dataworks, during which I learned a lot about different programming techniques and practices implemented in the work place. Currently, I'm working part time at Velocity Vr, getting a hands on experience dealing with a variety of networking and technical issue's every weekend.

Interests

In terms of interests I love anything to do with Computers. Learning how to operate new software or tackling architecture design or implementation for a various different projects really intrigues me. I'm always up for a new challenge. Outside of technical interests I'm not impartial to a game of football or playing a few video games with friends when I have some spare time.

Project Expectations

My Expectations for this project can be broken down into what I expect the project to do and what I hope to receive from this module.

As an end goal I envision the USV to be designed and operable by kids in non complex terrain. To break it down into bullet points, if the project meets these requirements I'd be delighted:

  • Able to drop waypoints onto a cloud dashboard and the USV will travel that route.
  • Capability to launch a submersible and Quad Copter from the USV for search and rescue or marine analysis use cases.
  • Functionality to allow primary and secondary school kids to interact with the project and have an impact on the design.
  • Ability and capability to control the USV via the cloud.
In terms of what I expect to get out of this module, I'm looking forward to learning a lot more about the IoT architecture when it comes to operating USV's and the work that goes into getting an End to End connection that kids will be able to understand and work with. Additionally the hands on experience of the class is something I will enjoy learning about as it tackles and gives a unique perspective to learning that is not often seen via College.

Prezi

In my first week I developed a Prezi of some research of similar projects, here is a link to it:
